Isat down (alright, not really, just virtually) with Kylie Parry , ceramic bead artist. Here’s the answers to some questions I had regarding her talent in ceramics! Enjoy! Who are you, and what do you create? Hello there! My name is Kylie Parry and my latest obsession is creating ceramic pendants. How long have you been working in this medium? What lead you to this craft? I took my first ceramics class in college. I fell in love with the “magic” of the process. Creating pendants was a compromise between the 2-D and 3-D sides of my brain. Creating them allows me to work with my hands (the messy, tactile clay experience) without ignoring my love for drawing and painting. I get the best of both worlds. I have been going non-stop for the past 5 years. Who has had the strongest influence on your development as an artist? I was born into a creative, hardworking and stubborn family. For better or worse, these traits are me and have definitely influenced my development as an artist.

when our hands were tired of manipulating wool, we strung the balls and beads onto fishing line to create mobiles and wall hangings. we used crimp beads under each ball/bead to keep them in place on the line, and i also provided plastic & ceramic beads and hardware that could be used to provide added texture and balance.

Hand Wire Wrapped Fall Agate Slice
This new necklace set features an all naturally colored Brazilian agate slice pendant! The colors of orange and rust with some cream remind me of a deep fall sunset. I have hand wire wrapped it using non-tarnish brass wire with lots of twists at the bail. I wanted this necklace to be versatile enough to wear any time of year, so I put softer bright colors within the necklace strands itself. I started with creamy smooth glass pearls, green marbled ceramic beads that hare caged in gold tone wire, and a little bit of sparkle with faceted rondelle crystals in light fall colors. This piece is both elegant and classy using a variety of techniques; wire wrapping, caging, and mixing of ceramic, glass pearls and crystals with a lovely natural agate stone. Ecowasbal: 1,000 Washes With No Detergent? Apparently. Th Ecowasbal washes your clothes… without detergent! Designed by GreenHabits, a company based in Amsterdam, the Ecowasbal is made of environmentally-friendly polypropylene plastic. Just toss it in your laundry and it promises to save you up to 80% of the amount of detergent you would normally use. It sounds like science-fiction, but apparently it works very well. Anyone tried it? Instead of detergent, the Ecowasbal is filled with small ceramic beads. When these beads come into contact with water, they create ions, just like normal detergent, which reduce the surface tension of water, activate the water molecules, and release the dirt and grime from them. And the Ecowasbal supposedly works with any type of fabric, and is good enough for 1,000 washes, which should last the normal user about 4 years!
